  • Replace faucets with aerators and showerheads with low-flow models (=<2.5gpm)
  • Newer toilets only need 1.6 gallons per flush but some older models use up to eight gallons.  If you cannot replace your toilet with a more efficient model now, a low cost fix (if you have one of these old, high-volume toilets) is to use bricks or fill a one gallon sealable milk jug with water to displace some of that water in the tank.
  • Fix leaky faucets and running toilets, a drip per second could waste over 5,000 gallons in a year and hundreds of dollars (depends on your water prices).
  • Check www.washwise.org for rebates in your area for energy and water efficient washing machines.
  • Solar hot water heaters are viable in almost any climate and can completely eliminate yur hot water energy bills.
