WASTE AND RECYCLING

  • Visit theDirect Marketers Association and ask to be removed from DMA member's mailing and phone call lists (They now charge $1, but this will save you in time and energy and keep most junkmail out of your mail box).
  • Visit Earth 911 to find out what can be recycled and where to take hazardous materials for proper disposal.
  • Pizza boxes cannot be recycled, but they can be composted; contact your local waste management about composting in your area.
  • Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to power a TV or computer for three hours (equal to running a 100 W light for 20 hours)
  • 59% of recycled plastic bottles are made into polyester fibers used in t-shirts, carpets and fill for sleeping bags.  –Washington State Recycling Association
  • Recycling one ton of paper saves 17 trees and 7,000 gallons of water.  Each year enough papers is thrown away to make a 12 ft. high wall from New York to California.  – www.earth911.org
  • Rather than throwing away old clothes and usable items, there are several charities that will take them (like Goodwill) or you can try to sell them online at an auction site (like ebay)or swap them for something else at Freecycle.
