LIGHTING AND ELECTRICITY

  • Generally, any incandescent that is used more than three hours would benefit from being replaced by a compact fluorescent (under two year payback)
  • For rooms where the lights are often times left on (perhaps because your arms are full of laundry), a motion sensor and/or timer can help alleviate this problem.
  • If you have fluorescent tube lighting, look at replacing your old T12 bulbs and ballasts with more efficient T8 bulbs.
  • Try to use as much natural lighting in a room as possible, it's more comfortable and doesn't cost anything.
  • Buy Green Power, it strengthens the grid by taking demand off of the conventional power plants and also produces energy from non-polluting sources, (in some places it's cheaper than conventional electricity).
